Because force and fear are not necessary to train any animal,

morally they should not be used.

Confrontational methods which involve pain, fear and intimidation increase the probability of owners being bitten by their dogs, damage the owner-dog relationship, and decrease a dog’s willingness and ability to obey commands (Weiss & Glazer, 1975; Reisner, 1994; Hiby et al., 2004; Schilder & van der Borg, 2004; Herron et al., 2009; Beaver, 2009; Arhant et al., 2010; Rooney & Cowan, 2011).

I have loved (don’t like to say “owned”) many dogs – both purebreds and mutts, big and small. My current love is a St. Bernard/Lab cross named Max.

  1. I hate to say “owned” too. Completely agree with your methods.

  2. Hello, I would like to nominate this blog for the Versatile Blogger Award.

Please understand that there is absolutely NO obligation to accept, repost or follow any of the VBA rules (which can be quite tedious). And should you prefer me to take down the link to your site from our VBA post, I will. Just let me know. We nominated you because we enjoyed your blog but we do not want to inconvenience you in anyway.

You can see our VBA post where we have linked to you at – http://weliveinaflat.wordpress.com/2013/06/17/mugshots-are-ugly/

The VBA is a “chain-letter” award. More about it on – http://versatilebloggeraward.wordpress.com/

    Have a good day!

    • Thank you for the award nomination – very nice of you! 🙂 Proud to be included with such excellent company.

      • ; )

  3. Thanks for following my blog. I like your methods. I’ll follow you too so I can learn some new things for my “pack” …or maybe I should not call them a pack??? Rural life with five dogs (among other animals) has it’s own challenges.

    • Rural life with 5 dogs and other animals sounds wonderful! You do have a pack (as in family unit) 🙂
Thanks for the follow! I’m sure we can learn from each other.

  4. For being such an awesome person to share training tips and giving detailed advice to dog newbies who are half the world away.

Please join the WordPress Family Award party at – http://weliveinaflat.wordpress.com/2013/07/04/my-dog-is-a-mystic-pack-leader/. We want to give you the same award. No obligation to repost if you decide not to :3

Sniff around and maybe you’ll find virtual treats and other human bytes 😛

    • Thank you for your kind words and for the invitation. I did visit and loved reading about the mystic pack leader – very funny! I will be sniffing around more and following some of the other Word Press Family Award bloggers. Thank you again! 🙂

  5. Thank you for following! I am sure to be visiting you blog often to get my crew to behave as they should. They practically run the house 🙂
    check them out here http://angelandchaos.wordpress.com/

    • Angel, Chaos, Storm, Rain and Ice are adorable! Love the names. Enjoyed the videos. 🙂

  6. Hi Linda, because you are one of my favourite online trainers, presenting you with the Versatile Blogger Award and the My Favourite Things award. Please do not feel obligated to repost or pass on the awards if you have no wish to. Have a good day today 🙂 – Nomination post here: https://weliveinaflat.wordpress.com/2013/07/27/bloggers-are-noisy/

  7. Congratulations to all the award winners and thank you for the nominations! I’m honored to be part of such a great community. 🙂

  8. I love your Blog! Thank you so much for posting so many insightful things!

    • Thank you! I started the blog so I could share good information with the people who attend my training classes. There is a lot of information on the internet about training and much of it is based on outdated dominance theory methods. I’m happy to hear you like it and thank you so much for sharing.
